Bric-a-brac: is a miscellaneous collection of small articles commonly of ornamental or sentimental value : curios.
Earlier this year I was shopping for some new bracelets. I couldn't find anything I liked. Most of the things I was seeing was mass produced, cheap jewelry with not so cheap prices. The handmade bracelets I was finding were also just not quite right for me, so I sat down to make something I would be excited to wear!
I combined my love for assemblage & collage art with my adoration for large, chunkly bracelets and viola.... my line of bric-a-brac-elets were born. As I was making my first one I told the hubs, I am going to call these bric-a-brac-elets. I laughed as I thought it was oh so clever. He told me he never heard of the term 'bric-a-brac' before. I couldn't believe he hadn't, but I explained what it meant and he admitted... "oh that's a great name". I use vintage clothing, handbags and belts and old jewelry to make my bric-a-brac-elets. The process for me is very similar to my large mixed media wall assemblages, but with alot of hand-stitching involved.
Each of my bric-a-brac-elets are handmade and truly one-of-a-kind. No two will ever be alike. The average bric-a-brac-elet takes me around 6 hours to complete start to finish.
I hope you enjoy them every bit as much as I enjoy making them.
