Heart VII - OLD GLORY

Since I am still on my heart assemblage kick, and with the 4th of July right around the corner I thought I would try my hand at making an American Flag heart. I adore how it turned out. So much fun with this one. This piece is a really personal one for me too because I used a bit of denim from one of my sister's pair of jeans. After she passed away I kept many pairs of her jeans and wear them often. With this pair I wore them so much they could no longer be worn anymore. I know how much she would love knowing that a piece of her jeans are in this work. Like me, my sister also had a great love for her country and she was never afraid to say she was a proud American or afraid to fly or wear the American flag.

My assemblages always have a few different faces usually as I pick and try different materials here and there, but this one really just sort of put itself together. I used material from my sister's jeans and an old bag I had that was falling apart. We have old barrel staves that had a natural reddish paint that had been on them, some vintage white wood rulers, and some old walnut siding.
